As we prepare for Thanksgiving celebrations, many suffer depression right now. Mothers mourn the death of family and friends, and others reflect on happier times in their own lives. My family suffered a sad Holiday when our mom was in the hospital. A few years ago that experience was so surreal. I went to my sister’s house, and she prepared the traditional meal turkey and southern dressing. Both of us enjoyed the dinner as much. Irene is a good cook, but I wanted to taste my mom’s food. She agreed.
Most people wouldn’t admit depression. You know, people lie on Facebook. They post beautiful pictures of themselves and write compelling sentences.
The statistics will shock you. Over fourteen million Americans suffer depression. Never think you are alone because the Devil whispers lies in your ear. Many go through challenges like divorce and stress escalates during family celebrations. The world presents Thanksgiving as a perfect day of family, food, and busy activities.
When people do not meet these expectations, they lack fulfillment.
What are the signs of depression?
When someone experiences depression, they lose concentration during activities, and other people are aware. Some stay in bed all day lacking will power to complete simple tasks. Then, anxiety overwhelms your mind.
More important, individuals get help, as soon as they can contact a healthcare professional or counselor. Without treatment, you develop illnesses and never enjoy an abundant life in the Body of Christ. Any of you could lead praise and worship or testify God’s faithfulness.
Once your mind suffers psychological damage, you have a difficult journey toward healing. God formed you in your mother’s womb? God never designs our minds to experience depression over time. We nourish our spirt man with the word, or think negative thoughts.
Thinking negative thoughts, you hinder the healing process.
Jesus constantly intercedes for us, and we realize God’s eternal love for humanity. Like a lawyer, Jesus pleads for you and I all the time. We can never overcome sin, without Jesus the mediator.
When you avoid church, you miss the Holy Spirit who opens a door of opportunity. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth John 14:17 NLT. The Holy Spirit is our comforter developing a game plan for success.
Nurture my spirit man
When you take your eyes off God, he cannot help. After reevaluating my life, I reflect on positive experiences. For example, I thank God for my safety and health because someone else cannot walk and run.
The Lord is my strength and shield Psalms 28:7. I trust him as I give thanksgiving.
Nurturing the spirit man must be a priority every day. We receive faith four ways. Faith to hear God’s voice as we study the word. You also find examples in the body of Christ and seek the Holy Spirit. Faith heals emotions.
Light at the end of tunnel
We declare victory! I accept Jesus into my heart, and I the word strengthens my spirit man. One scripture, I remember learning Romans 8:37. Yet amid all those things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him who loved us. We possess even more power.
Read these scriptures and meditate so God can bless you. Next, pray for good friends, because a person always needs encouragement through trials. Proverbs 17:17 a friend loves at all times, and is born, as is a brother, for adversity.
A good friend offers kind words as she sews seeds of encouragement. A priceless friendship. I have close friends who love me unconditionally, and the love pushes me toward Jesus.
If someone had depression before reading this post, they should rejoice by now. We serve an amazing God who blesses obedient children. The Holy Spirit can access secret areas of hurt and pain. When you focus on faith, you get better results. Otherwise, fear erases faith. Many Americans take Prozac, without telling anyone. Remember the joy of the Lord gives us strength.
